Improve WiFi Reception To A Single Windows - Based Computer

Improve your computer's WiFi reception in all directions in your home, RV, boat or Big Rig. The CC X Mile Omni is made for outdoor use with solid construction mounting to a pole or ladder. Plug in the 30 ft. cable to the USB port on your Windows computer and the drivers normally auto install. Seconds later your WiFi is greatly improved. Estimated range is 400 ft. and in extreme distances over 1 mile (Line of sight, without walls, trees or other obstructions. Also depends on the strength of the WiFi router).

The 8dBi WiFi antenna has a cast-aluminum mounting bracket and outdoor rated connections for many years of reliable use. It can mount to a wall or a 1 ½" to 2" pipe mast (not included).

For maximum performance in fixed WiFi environments we recommend the CC X Mile Long Range. Using this directional system we were able to cut through interference caused by too many WiFi networks.

The CC X Mile Omni works with Windows® XP to Windows® 10. Requires the installation of software drivers. Gaming stations such as the Xbox® and Sony PlayStation®, the iPad®, iPhone®, Android® and Windows RT® devices are not capable of installing these software drivers.

Have a MAC, Chromebook or need to connect more than one device? Our new CC Vector RV WiFi Repeater System will pull in those distant signals for improved reception of almost any WiFi device, smartphones, tablets and even MAC and Chromebook operating systems (all versions).

After mounting the CC X Mile Omni high up on my roof, I can see many WiFi networks. The speed seems slower than before, and some weaker signals will not connect. What can I do to increase performance?

If the CC X Mile Omni can see more than 30 strong networks nearby then there may be too much interference for it to work at full speed. Try using the CC X Mile Omni closer to ground level which should help to alleviate some of the interference. For distant WiFi signals in crowded locations, we recommend using our Point-to-Point directional WiFi antenna. This will focus the signal in the direction of the desired WiFi location.

How far will it reach?

Typically, it will reach over 100 yards away to a normal router, depending on obstructions. Under ideal circumstances, it will reach over a mile away to a normal router. This would require no obstructions whatsoever and for it to be used in a rural location without many WiFi networks causing interference.

My computer is not showing that the antenna is plugged in. What's wrong?

Check the connection between the antenna and the cable to be sure they are tightly connected. If only one USB port is available, make sure to use the main USB cable connector, not the optional Power Boost connector (single loose connector).

I have Windows 7/8/Vista and inserted the software CD. I clicked on "Run Autorun.exe" but nothing is happening.

Check the bottom taskbar area for a security shield or message that is asking permission to install the software. Also, if your computer has a third-party firewall or virus protection installed, you may have to temporarily disable it.

My software shows that the antenna is connected but when I try to use my internet browser I am unable to view anything. What should I do?

You may not have a strong enough WiFi connection. Successful connection to a wireless network usually requires a minimum of 2 bars of signal. If the signal is low, you can try relocating or repositioning the antenna with a better line-of-sight view to the WiFi source; or the wireless network does not offer internet service; or a firewall/virus protection is preventing access.

It does not improve my WiFi reception. Is there something I can do to make it work better?

Be sure that the antenna is positioned vertically in a location that is not obstructed to the WiFi source. Mount your antenna outside and up high for best reception. If your desired WiFi network still shows a weak signal, then try a larger antenna with the CC X Mile Omni.

Can I use a passive USB extension cable to add on to the existing length of cable that came with the CC X Mile Omni?

No, the CC X Mile Omni should not be connected to an additional passive USB extension cable. Please use the 30' USB cable that came with the antenna. It is not recommended to exceed the length of the 30' USB cable, as it can cause severe signal loss.

My computer has an internal WiFi antenna; is it necessary to disable it before installing the software and the CC X Mile Omni?

It is not a requirement, but it is recommended. If both WiFi connections are going at the same time, it will require more power from your computer and will create extra heat. Usually there is a button, switch, or key on a laptop that disables the internal WiFi device.

Can I use the antenna with my iPad®/iPhone®/Android® device to increase my WiFi reception?

No. The CC X Mile Omni requires installation of software drivers. At this time, the iPad®/iPhone®/Android® devices are not capable of installing software drivers.

Is there a location to download another copy of the software CD?

Click on the "Downloads/Manuals" tab above and you can download the appropriate file for your computer.

I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 10 and connected antenna with the USB cable but it is not recognized or showing after installing software drivers. What can I do?

  1. Plug the USB WiFi Antenna and cable into your computer's USB port.
  2. Right click on the Windows Start Icon.
  3. Left click on Device Manager.
  4. Select Network adapter to expand to show the adapters listed below the title.
  5. Right click on "802.11n USB Wireless Lan Card......".
  6. Left click on Uninstall.
  7. Check the box "Remove all drivers".
  8. Click Okay.
  9. Unplug the antenna's USB cable from your computer.
  10. Restart your computer.
  11. Plug antenna's USB cable back into your computer's USB port and it should install automatically without the need to install any software or drivers.
Windows 10 does not show both Internal and External WiFi when clicking on the WiFi icon like Windows 7 and 8.
  1. Left click the WiFi Setting icon at the bottom right of the desktop.
  2. Look at the top of the list for the word "WiFi".
