Yes. The two batteries (even if dead) are necessary to complete the circuit for proper operation.
The New SoftSpeaker-3K amplifies audio from modern devices where the volume is normally too low like iPads®, Kindles®, iPhones®, Samsung®, Chromebooks®, smart speakers, etc. It can also compensate for some common hearing loss*. May also help insomnia with white noise and in some cases tinnitus by adding background audio. Allows you to get rid of the tangle and discomfort of ear pieces and enjoy your radio shows, audio books, podcasts, late night movies and music at the volume you prefer without disturbing others. The cable from the amplifier to the speaker is now Kevlar® reinforced for durability.
It is larger and softer than our other pillow speakers for more comfort. You can lay directly on your ear or under your pillow. The controls are very easy to use at night. A stereo signal is fully combined so there is no drop-out loss from the right or left channel. A neodymium magnet speaker provides superior clear audio. The tone control switch can be set for voice or music. A rotary wheel adjusts the in-line volume control. It delivers high quality audio, up to three times louder than a non-amplified pillow speaker.
The SoftSpeaker-3K works with any device with a 3.5 mm (1/8") stereo headphone jack or line out. The automatic sleep timer can be set to 1, 4 or 8 hours and it remembers your preference to save batteries. Battery life is about 80 hours when using the "Voice" setting; built in battery level checker. You may need to lower the volume on your host device to eliminate distortion.
* We do recommend you see a professional audiologist for a hearing test and recommendations.

Yes. The two batteries (even if dead) are necessary to complete the circuit for proper operation.
No. You will need to have or purchase a Lightning to 3.5 mm (1/8") Female Headphone Jack Adapter. In some cases, your iPhone may include one. If not, check with your Apple Store or visit their website at: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMX62AM/A/lightning-to-35-mm-headphone-jack-adapter.
Check the battery level by pressing & holding the button on the left side above the volume control. If only one light appears, replace the AAA batteries.
No. The sleep timer needs to be set to stay on for 1, 4 or 8 hours. When you press and release power button once (one red light), the sleep timer is automatically set for one hour. Press and hold the power button down to select 4 hours (two red lights) or 8 hours (three red lights).
No. The sleep timer only affects the amplifier when batteries are inserted. When AMP is off, the SoftSpeaker 3K uses no power.
The Power and the AMP needs to be ON in order to use the Tone or Sleep Timer.
Technically NO. We do not recommend using Lithium type batteries due to the higher voltage they produce. Even though the specifications for some lithium batteries state 1.5 volts, they can register up to 1.8 volts when they are fresh. Our products are designed to operate on a very light load. Using lithium batteries that register higher (using a voltmeter) than 1.6 volts can cause damage to our products.
