The CC Skywave 2 can help you discover local culture when traveling to a new city or country. It covers all the AM/FM and Shortwave bands worldwide. The reception, audio and durable build are what this radio excels at. The Skywave 2 has an intuitive layout so it’s easy to use. Incoming radio signals can be manipulated to reduce interference.

When your flights are delayed it can be imperative to find out what’s going on. The Aviation Band lets you listen in on nearby pilots, air traffic controllers and ground crew. English is the standard language used in aviation worldwide.

Now with a new shortwave antenna mono jack that can noticeably improve shortwave reception when used with an external long antenna wire. The CC Wire Terminal Antenna Adapter is required (Sold Separately).

Included are the high-quality original CC Buds™ for your listening pleasure, a carry case and hand lanyard for walking.

Never listened to the Aviation band? This band lets you listen to nearby pilots, air traffic controllers and ground crew. When traveling, airline schedule changes and problems can be perplexing and annoying. Listening to control towers can provide endless entertainment and informative tidbits of information. It is as simple as telling the Skywave 2 to scan for an active frequency until you find some action. The best one is usually the approach frequency used for planes that are landing and you'll know if you've found the correct one when you hear it. You can also search the web for "air traffic control radio Seattle" for example, to find information and to learn more about aviation radio. If you live next to a smaller airport you could ask a local pilot for the frequency or look up "common traffic advisory frequency" plus the airport name. English is the standard language used in aviation at all airports worldwide.

When traveling abroad, unless you have checked local laws, tuck your Skywave 2 into a safe corner of your carry-on. An Airband radio may not be legal to have in some countries.

Review of the C. Crane CC Skywave 2 Radio by Jay Allen of RADIOJAYALLEN.COM

I am trying to tune my CC Skywave 2 using the Tuning Knob or the Up/Down buttons on the AM band, but it is not showing my radio station's frequency. What am I doing wrong?

The radio maybe set to 9 kHz tuning steps instead of 10 kHz tuning steps. To change this, turn the radio off, then press and hold the button preset #0 (9/10kHz) down for 3 seconds or until the display shows the number 10. Turn the radio on and select the AM band. Try tuning the radio using the tuning knob or the Up/Down buttons.

Can the firmware version of my CC Skywave 2 be updated?

No.

How do I find what firmware version of the CC Skywave 2 that I have?

Press and hold the Preset #1 button down for 3 seconds with radio turned OFF.

Why does the light flash on and off when I turn the radio off?

The Weather Alert is turned on. This is a reminder that the alert feature is on and is working. It is not recommended to leave on frequently when using batteries.

How do I do a complete factory reset?

With the power off, press and hold memory buttons #4 and #6 until the radio beeps four times, the display flashes and three final beeps are heard.

How do I change the audio quality from MUSIC to VOICE?

Press and hold the PAGE button for 3 seconds. You should hear a beep and see the setting change on the screen. To switch back, hold the PAGE button again for 3 seconds.

Why do I hear more static with the optional AC charging adapter than I have heard from older AC adapters that I have used in the past on older radio models?

Many years ago, a worldwide ban went into effect mandating the phase out of linear AC adapters in favor of switching AC adapters.

Switching adapters are smaller, lighter, and far more energy efficient than linear adapters. However, the downside is that they produce about 10 times more line noise than their linear adapter counterparts.

What are the steps for setting and activating the Weather Alert?

  1. Turn the radio on by pressing and releasing the red power button (on the front of the radio).
  2. Press and release the “WX SW AIR” button (on front bottom right of the radio) until WX shows on the display.
  3. Change the channel with the Tuning dial or the Up or Down tuning buttons until you hear your local NOAA Weather Broadcast.
  4. Press and hold the “AM FM Alert” button until the desired hours of monitoring (4hr, 8hr or 16hr) are selected.

Note: While the weather alert is activated, the display light will flash once every few seconds to remind you that the NOAA Weather Alert is "ON".

  1. When NOAA issues a weather alert, the radio will continuously beep for two minutes.
  2. Press and release the red Power Button to listen to the weather broadcast.
  3. To de-activate the Weather Alert, press and hold the “AM FM Alert” button for 3 seconds or until “OFF” is displayed.

Can I use Lithium type batteries in my radio?

Technically NO. We do not recommend using Lithium type batteries due to the higher voltage they produce. Even though the specifications for some lithium batteries state 1.5 volts, they can register up to 1.8 volts when they are fresh. Our products are designed to operate on a very light load. Using lithium batteries that register higher (using a voltmeter) than 1.6 volts can cause damage to our products.
