The Skywave SSB 2 has wide and accurate band coverage in a small size which makes it an excellent travel and emergency radio. Single Side Band is a reliable way to get long range information after an earthquake or hurricane, when normal communications are down. The SSB tuning is accurate to 10 Hertz resolution. It also covers civilian aviation VHF with 10 aviation memories that can continuously scan for activity. It also covers AM/FM and Weather with Alert.
The Skywave SSB 2 has several improvements: The new Shortwave antenna jack can significantly improve SW reception when used with an external antenna. The new micro-USB connector now works well from any USB port along with improved in-circuit battery charging for optional “AA” NiMH rechargeable batteries. Other upgrades include a higher quality speaker along with slightly more audio amplification. Longer feet on the bottom of the radio for better stability.
Features: Rotary volume dial, stereo headphone jack, clock, alarm, sleep timer, 400 memory presets, adjustable squelch for VHF, lighted LCD display, 9/10 kHz tuning and Micro-USB power input jack. Runs on (2) “AA” batteries for approximately 65 hours. Optional 5V AC charging adapter with a micro-USB tip is available.
Included: CC Wire Terminal Antenna Adapter for shortwave (2-wire to mono plug) and a portable 23’ CC Shortwave Reel Antenna.

To see any difference using the 2-wire adapter you will need to have a wire that is more than 30 feet long (we recommend 60-100’) with a good ground wire. Insulated wire will last longer and should be stranded so it is more flexible. If you do not have a good ground, you are actually inputting noise. If you look at the 2-wire adapter (included) you will see an antenna icon and a ground (G) marking. You need to connect them properly when using an external antenna. When a plug is inserted into the antenna jack of the radio the internal rod antenna is disconnected. (See page 30 of the Instruction manual.) |

No.
Press and hold the Preset #1 button down for 3 seconds with radio turned OFF.
To activate the charging circuit the radio must be powered off. Then press and release the Charge/Bandwidth button to place it into charging mode.
The radio maybe set to 9 kHz tuning steps instead of 10 kHz tuning steps. To change this, turn the radio off, then press and hold the button preset #0 (9/10kHz) down for 3 seconds or until the display shows the number 10. Turn the radio on and select the AM band. Try tuning the radio using the tuning knob or the Up/Down buttons.
If the NOAA Weather Alert function was accidentally or intentionally activated, this will cause the display light to intermittently flash. If you would like to disable this function, press and hold down the Alert button for 5 seconds.
Our CC Skywave SSB Radio 2 (SSB2) offers Single Side Band. This new feature allows users to listen to Morse code over the shortwave frequencies. BFO is not needed with the CC Skywave SSB 2. One of our users that owns our CC Skywave SSB 2 Radio stated the following:
"One advantage the Skywave SSB 2 has is that a narrow bandwidth down to 500Hz can be used to improve readability in poor conditions. Very few other radios in this class can do this. The SSB 2 can also copy CW (Morse code) and digital modes such as RTTY, PSK31, FT8, and even slow scan TV!"
Note: While the weather alert is activated, the display light will flash once every few seconds to remind you that the NOAA Weather Alert is "ON".

Technically NO. We do not recommend using Lithium type batteries due to the higher voltage they produce. Even though the specifications for some lithium batteries state 1.5 volts, they can register up to 1.8 volts when they are fresh. Our products are designed to operate on a very light load. Using lithium batteries that register higher (using a voltmeter) than 1.6 volts can cause damage to our products.
